Celebrating Two Years of The Warm Space and the Launch of Transformation’s New Community Hub

17th February 2025 marked a significant milestone for the community of Redruth as we celebrated two years of The Warm Space at St Andrew’s Church and the official launch of Transformation Food Banks’ latest Community Hub.

The well-attended event at St Andrew’s Church welcomed service users, partner organisations, and distinguished guests, including the Mayor of Redruth, Cllr Stephen Barnes.

Representatives from South West Water, Transformation Cornwall, Healthy Cornwall, Employment Plus, and Community Energy Plus also joined in the celebrations, highlighting the collaborative effort in supporting local people.

The morning began with a Community Breakfast at 9:00 AM, followed by a heartfelt address from Anna Corbett, Chief Executive of Transformation Food Banks & Community Hubs, who reflected on the journey of The Warm Space and outlined the vision for the newly launched Community Hub.

The Rector of Redruth, the Reverend Rebecca Bell, shared an inspiring message, emphasising the power of community, love and friendship fostered through The Warm Space. In her speech, she acknowledged the dedication of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

At 10:00 AM, The Rt Revd Hugh Nelson, Bishop of St Germans and Bishop to the Armed Forces, led a special blessing and prayer before officially opening the new facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, witnessed by guests including the Mayor. The event concluded with birthday cake, tea and biscuits, as attendees shared in the joy of this important occasion.

Speaking about the launch, Anna Corbett said: "The Warm Space has become a vital part of the community, offering not just food but friendship, support and hope. With the opening of this new Community Hub, we are excited to expand our reach and provide even more services to those who need them most. We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, partners and supporters for making this possible."

Transformation Food Banks & Community Hubs remain committed to addressing food insecurity and fostering community resilience. The new Hub will provide additional services, ensuring ongoing support for individuals and families facing hardship.

🌱 Rescuing Food, Feeding Families 🌱

At Transformation Food Banks & Community Hubs, we believe that no one should have to choose between paying bills and putting food on the table. Thanks to the incredible partnership we have with Gleaning Cornwall, families across West Cornwall have access to fresh, nutritious produce - completely free of charge.

Gleaning Cornwall work tirelessly to rescue surplus farm produce, ensuring that perfectly good food doesn’t go to waste in fields or landfills but instead reaches those who need it most. With the help of their dedicated volunteers, generous growers, and financial supporters, they provide us with a bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables - apples, squash, carrots, broccoli, potatoes, cabbages and so much more.

We, along with our service users, are incredibly grateful for everything Gleaning Cornwall do to support our mission. Their work makes a real, tangible difference to food security in our community.

💚 Together, we are transforming communities.
